Final Project:

You can select your final project project for this unit.  These are to be completed individually.  Some options are to:

  • Write an essay about Maya math describing the differences between base-10 and base-20 number systems and how to convert between the two.

  • Draw your own Maya codex and include an accompanying description noting the significance of the glyphs, focusing on the numbers that appear in your text.  Be sure to convert the numbers back to base-10 in your description!

  • Find another part of the Dresden Codex (or any other Maya writing) and analyze the writing, focusing on the numbers depicted.  Be sure to also explain what these numbers are using base-10 in your analysis.

  • Choose a dozen base-10 numbers that are three digits or longer and convert them to base-20.  Choose another dozen numbers in base-20 and convert them to base-10.  Explain how you did this and why it works.

  • Extend your knowledge of bases by explaining how to convert between base-10 and base-2 using what you have learned about converting between bases 10 and 20.  This could be shown through the creation of a website, a poster, an essay, a presentation, or even a video.

  • Create a video of yourself teaching how to convert from base-10 to base-20 and from base-20 to base-10, explaining the purpose for each step.

  • If you have another idea, suggest it to me first for approval!
